With a donation from Mrs. M. Deb, widow of Dr. B. C. Deb, the ISCA instituted this award in 1994-95, and is given annually to an Indian national who has sustained interest for Popularising Science. The award carries a cash amount of Rs.5,000/- and a plaque. The recipient has to deliver a lecture on the topic of his/her contributions in the Committee on Science and Society during the Science Congress. The awardee is entitled to TA/DA (within the country) as per ISCA rules for attending the respective Session of the Science Congress in which he/she will receive the award.
Nominations thus received will be sent to three experts (one of whm will be the President, Section of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Molecular Biology of the year, and the other two will be nominated by the General President) for opinion.
The final selection will be made by a Selection Committee consisting of General President, General Secretary (Scientific Activities), Treasurer and General Secretary (Membership Affairs).
In case the donor intends to have his/her representative in the Selection Committee, the Committee will also include such a representative provided the donor agrees to meet the cost of participation of his/her representative in the Selection Committee. The last date for receiving applications (in prescribed proforma) is July 31 each year.
